The company was founded by Gustav Josting in Enger in 1924 and taken over by his son Friedel Josting in 1969. The succession arrangements resulted in the formation in 1997 of Josting Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG, which is managed by Frank Josting, one of the 3rd generation and the grandson of the founder.

The first few years after formation saw a variety of machines for the wood processing industry manufactured. However, the company was quick to spot the increasing importance of veneers to the furniture trade.

Production specialised in the manufacture of veneer jointing guillotines. The machines were subjected to constant development and refinement in close collaboration with the veneer-processing industry. The increasing requirements of customers led some years ago to the development and manufacture of double-knife veneer guillotines. These machines give Josting a world-leading technology which satisfies the requirements for rational production, high accuracy of cut and conservative cutting methods. The cutting optimisation facility, which is currently in the process of development in collaboration with specialists in research and the field, represents a further step on the way towards the better utilisation of veneer as a raw material.

The production facility on Hagenstraße in Enger was given up in 1992, the premises being too small and obsolete. A new structure with some 3000 square metres of space was erected in the Enger-Süd industrial estate. This is where modern guillotines for veneers, foil and plastics are manufactured by about 40 workers.

Drawing on the experience gained from veneer cutting, paper guillotines for large formats are also produced today. The cut lengths of 2300 - 4500 mm are predominantly used in large-format screen or digital printing. Stable machine construction and sophisticated cutting technology guarantee clean and rational cutting of paper, plastic film, cardboard and other materials, while air tables ensure smooth transportation of the material.
